Sustainability In Science
An increasingly important aspect of working and living conditions in current times is environmental sustainability, both concerning us as scientists as well as the planet as the basis on which we perform our research. Being at the forefront of knowledge and innovation, as we all are in yHEP , we take our responsibility as drivers of change and innovation seriously – not only via the scientific research we conduct, but also for the way we perform the research. Future research should be excellent and reflect the responsibility for our planet at the same time.
Know-Your-Footprint Campaign
yHEP launched the Know your footprint (Kyf) campaign under the leadership of Valerie Lang with the goal to evaluate the CO₂-equivalent emissions generated by research conducted in the field of high energy physics. A core team consisting of yHEP members: Valerie Lang, Naman Kumar Bhalla, Simran Gurdasani, Pardis Niknejadi have published a paper titled:
"Evaluation of the professional carbon footprint for individual researchers in high energy physics and related fields"
presenting a study on the carbon footprints associated with four categories in the field of HEP research: Experiments, Institutional, Computing and Travel.
The Know-your-footprint (Kyf) calculator is now available:

It provides you a tool for self-evaluation and assessment of your personal and professional footprint!
